Overview: In
lieu of taking a multiple-choice exam, I would like you to engage with the
Greek gods, goddesses, demigods, and monsters we studied over the past few
weeks. You will work in a group and each
student must contribute to the written and performances aspects of the
assignment. Please follow the guidelines
and rubric below.
Choose one of the following scenarios:
Several gods, goddesses, and demigods go to Starbucks to get their morning coffee. Who works there? What does each god or goddess order? What happens when they have to wait? Are orders screwed up? What events from the myths play out in the coffee house? Be creative and explore the possibilities!
The Olympians have been in hiding for quite some time, and now they feel it is time to come live among the humans. With their famous trademarks altered by the humans on Earth, and no one worshiping them with the reverence of long ago, what are they to do? Demeter is the goddess of cereal. Cinnamon Toast Crunch? Cookie Crisp? Gluten Free? Zeus comes to Earth to seduce humans only to find that he needs to use a dating app? Apollo needs to wear special glasses to view an eclipse? How can Hermes compete with Amazon Prime? Poseidon goes to Water Country? What other ways have things changed for the Olympians? Create a scenario to display the changes. Be creative and explore the possibilities!
Keeping up the Olympians is the newest reality show on E! What is life like for the Olympians now that they have descended from Olympus and live in Beverly Hills next door to the Kardashians? What happens when Kanye tells Zeus, “I am a God”? Be creative and explore the possibilities!
On HGTV, the gods and goddesses are flipping temples on their new show, Out of this World. Who handles what job on the show? What wacky things happen on the show? What happens when human decide they do not like the wallpaper? Be creative and explore the possibilities!
H-Block of the Olympians. In a new translation of the Greek Myths, Cronos vomited up the Olympians when they were 15 years of age. Gia sends them to Andover High School and they all end up in the same H-block class. How do their personalities play out as teenagers? How do they interact in H1? How do they sign-up for classes? What happens when they learn that field day is cancelled? Be creative and explore the possibilities!
The Olympians are down on their luck. They are no longer revered and the Olympians have lost their powers. They are now on Earth working everyday jobs and living ordinary lives. Zeus’s new wife, a human named Joanie, has recently given birth to twins. All of Zeus’s family shows up to his house for a party (including his ex…and sister, Hera). What are their lives like now that they are mortal? What choices have they made on Earth to match up with their former existences? Becreative and explore the possibilities!
